Trying to Lose Weight? 6 Steps to Get Started

Whether you are on your way or you plan to jump on the weight loss bandwagon come January 1st, there are definitely some tricks of the trade that you need to know. Let’s take a look at the baby steps you should be taking in order to secure a successful weight loss.

  1. Ditch the Temptations

When you need to start watching your calories, the last thing you want to do is have a house that’s full of junk food. The calories from one cookie or a snack bar can quickly add up, ensuring you never burn more than you ingest. The first (and arguably one of the most important steps) is to take inventory and toss out all of those high calorie, high sugar junk foods that you have around the house.

  1. Download Some Help

To continue with the point above, calorie counting can be a fast track to weight loss. With your busy schedule, you don’t have time to sit and measure everything out on a scale, so what can you do? Download a calorie tracker like My Fitness Pal. Calorie tracker apps already have the nutritional information of all the foods you put into it. Just a few quick swipes and there it is. This is the most convenient to watch your calorie count.

  1. Eat More Protein and Fiber

To ensure you don’t get overwhelmed by junk food cravings, it’ll be important to stay full and satisfied throughout the day. The way to do that is to eat more healthy protein options along with fiber. Both of these nutrients keep you feeling full while supporting a healthy weight loss.

  1. Know Your Resources

Information is power when it comes to losing weight. Unfortunately, the internet is loaded with so much misinformation that could become potentially troublesome. It’s best to stick with government official websites as you just start out since the information is all based on scientific research. Here are some great resources that are also user-friendly:

  1. Ask Your Friends

Weight loss is the most common health and fitness goal. Why go at it alone? Ask your friends to see who is also trying to lose weight and pair up with them. You can hold one another accountable to ensure the highest rate of success. What’s more, you can make it competitive by betting. Nothing is a bigger motivator than winning against a friendly rival.

  1. Get it on Paper

Hands down, one of the best things that you can do before beginning a weight loss journey is to get specific about your goals and what you want to accomplish. It’s important to set S.M.A.R.T. goals so that you know where you’re heading.
